Two years into my working in and around the Falmouth rave scene I met Ollie Blakey; I was photographing a busy night at the Cornish Bank (where Blakey does sound tech) and he invited me up into the sound booth to get out of the crowd for a second. From then on at every shoot or night at bank we spoke, and we eventually ended up hanging out together. Last summer he started taking out the Tungsten Soundsystem, a DIY rig he’d built from various old PA systems from venues across town, as I started my radio station/events company, and we decided to partner the two. I’ve always loved speakers, hi-fi, and of course big soundsystems, so I naturally started documenting Ollie as part of my wider rave work. As we got closer and I spent more time with him outside of the rave, I started to document his process and environment, and the behind the scenes of running, maintaining and upgrading a DIY soundsystem.
